Vetra Building is an intervention of urban regeneration that aims to reactivate the dialogue between an ex public building and a portion of the city it had barricaded itself from. In the heart of the Basilicas Park of Milan, an entire district comes back to life thanks to the design of spaces conceived for a renewed sociality that goes beyond the modern work needs

Come trasformare un trascurato punto di riferimento urbano in un sogno audace per il futuro del quartiere? È stata questa la sfida che abbiamo raccolto nel ristrutturare l’ex Esattoria civica milanese. Un luogo prezioso, storico, da rinnovare nel massimo rispetto – in un’ottica di riscoperta della tradizione.
Rinominato Vetra Building, l’edificio inizia il processo di rinascita dalla facciata per ricollegare il parco e Milano sia fisicamente che visivamente. È poi la volta degli altri aspetti spaziali, materici, impiantistici – premiati con la Certificazione LEED Platinum. Il piano terra ristrutturato accoglie spazi commerciali e aree comuni che fungono da collante tra uffici e servizi. Dove prima c’erano abbandono e degrado, oggi c’è un’area capace di generare nuove stimolanti esperienze di vita.
Il risultato è un edificio costituito da due corpi di fabbrica per una superficie complessiva di quasi 30 mila metri quadrati. Un nuovo complesso direzionale su 5 livelli con food court al piano terra.

Is there a way to turn a neglected urban landmark into a bold dream for the neighborhood’s future? That was our challenge in renovating Milan’s ex-Tax Collector’s Office. A precious historical place to be treated with utmost respect and with ambition to rediscover past traditions.
Renamed into Vetra Building, the edifice starts its rebirth from the façade to reconnect, physically and visually, a previously abandoned park with the city. It then proceeds to spatial, material, plant engineering assets, earning the building a Platinum LEED status. The remade ground floor hosts commercial spaces and common areas that act as the bonding agent between worksphere and services. What once was an area of notoriety and crime, is now generating new inspiring life experiences.
The result is a building consisting of two blocks for a total surface of nearly 30 thousand square meters, with a new office building spread over 5 floors and a Food Court on the ground floor.

What we are giving back to the neighborhood today is a new open and varied ecosystem. The opportunity to offer those who will choose to hang out in this place, an experience that doesn’t fade with the end of the working hours but, on the contrary, lights up with life and evolves during the day, in different moments of the week and the year”

Per l’inaugurazione del Vetra Building si è scelta l’installazione dell’opera d’arte site-specific “X”, che porta la firma di una tra le figure più significative della scena artistica italiana contemporanea: Patrick Tuttofuoco è un artista riconosciuto a livello internazionale, con una carriera costellata di presenze prestigiose in musei, piazze, eventi e biennali di tutto il mondo.
La sua scultura luminosa, incastonata sulla facciata del palazzo, è ispirata ai concetti di apertura, contatto e nuovi modi di vivere lo spazio – valori che hanno guidato l’intero progetto di riqualificazione architettonica dell’edificio.
L'opera di Tuttofuoco, in pieno centro a Milano, alle spalle di via Torino, riaccende così un pezzo di paesaggio urbano, secondo un processo estetico e concettuale.

On the occasion of the opening of Vetra Building, we chose to install the site-specific work of art “X” that carries the signature of one of the most significant figures of the contemporary Italian art scene: Patrick Tuttofuoco is an internationally acclaimed artist, whose career is studded with prestigious attendances in museums, squares, events and biennials all over the world.
Set on the façade of Vetra Building, his light sculpture is inspired by the concepts of openness, contact and new ways to live space – values that guided the entire architectural redevelopment project of the palace.
The work of Tuttofuoco, in the very heart of Milan, behind Torino St., thus revives a piece of urban landscape, following an aesthetic and conceptual process.
